Hello! I am Mel and mostly I am a proud Mum to my daughter Rory!
Jump & Jive grew from my genuine love for working with children as a performing arts instructor in childcare centres all over Melbourne. I have been asked many times if I offer these classes publicly. I am excited to bring Jump & Jive to the wider community as a purposeful space for children to learn, grow, laugh and shine! Jump & Jive inspires confident, enthusiastic and creative hearts in a technology laden world, and many fun, meaningful moments and musical minds along the way!
What is Jump & Jive?
Jump & Jive is a multi-sensory ‘workout’ that creates a richer and more complete learning and emotional experience.
The patterns in music and the repetition of sounds and syllables enhance language development, memory, attention, reason and logic! Jump & Jive activities support music appreciation and musical growth through diverse styles of music – classical, traditional, modern, jazz, rock, world and much more!
With Jump & Jive, your child will experience a sense of steady beat, rhythm, melodic perception, dynamics, tempo, and pitch. Most importantly, music that evokes emotion, a sense of wonder, joy, motivation, creativity, passion, and expressive sensitivity.

0 – 12 Months

Children are warmly and gently absorbed into a joyful and rewarding introduction to music and shared happiness. Maintaining a rich flow of uplifting melodies, beats and rhythms that inspire joyful exploration and internal motivation.
Imitation and well-balanced repetition engage memory, reasoning, speech, attention, emotion and reward.
12 – 24 Months
9.30am
Class is similarly structured, adapting to children’s development and new walkers. Increased energy and enthusiasm extend interests and alertness.
Children “play” with the songs predictably and differently through both familiar and different developmental activities using colourful and interesting props, puppets, percussion instruments and movement activities.
2 – 3 Years
10.15am
Children become familiar with their music journey and enjoy a more meaningful experience with increased purpose, motivation, confidence, courage and vitality.
Motor skills, active listening, attention, coordination, balance, spatial awareness, physical and mental endurance strengthens using more percussion instruments, creative movement, exciting props with familiar and different songs, creative activities, crossing the midline and comic timing!
3 – 4 & 4-5 Years

Creative courage, self-expression, mental and physical stamina grows as their “musical nutrients” add depth to “their” voice, emotions, body and ideas.
Rhythmic competence grows inspiring more complex motor skills and mastering movement patterns.
Social-emotional skills are like a superpower these days and we supercharge them!
Abstract emotions feel real and relatable in ways they might not otherwise engage with.
